Team Lee just got back from competing in the Ash Creek Saloon’s 4th Annual Rib Eating Championship in Black Rock, CT. The amazing Humble Bob Shoudt took first place with 6.8 pounds, eating just more than Joey Chestnut and Tim Janus. I pushed up my total significantly from last year, finishing fourth with five pounds of the most delicious ribs I’ve ever eaten. I could do this contest every month. The ribs were so tender they were literally falling off the bone. The Ash Creek’s new location has clearly helped them step their kitchen game up a notch, as well as them providing a super venue to host their contest. Last year’s contest was great, but this year’s event was even better! Clearly this year’s contest was the result of a lot of hard work on the part of a dedicated team of people.

Even though I didn’t win it all, I still love this contest. When you combine great food with a great group of people, you can’t help but have a great contest. So many of the Ash Creek family: Michael Friedman, David Cervero, Allison Tucci, Jay Dupignac, Kristian Snook, Anthony Sylvia, and Lars Anderson treated us like part of their family, we really hated to leave. I guess they might have noticed that I really love their food, since I ate their ribs the night before the contest, during the contest, then for dinner after the contest. I’ll have to confess that I also took my extra pan of contest ribs, too. I ate them on the ride home yesterday, and I’m not going to apologize:). They’re the best ribs in the world as far as I’m concerned, and since I like mostly Asian food, that’s saying something. Even our youngest daughter, who (like Humble Bob) is vegetarian, loves the Ash Creek Saloon. She claims they have the best veggie burgers and sweet potato fries she’s ever eaten, and ate them twice in two days.

The whole weekend was really fun because their team supported our team. If anyone ever wants to know how to hold a top-notch competition on a really nice local scale, they should contact the Ash Creek crew. While we were there, I realized that as kind as they were to us, they treat all their customers as if they were their best customers. That’s a truly special quality. Just sign me up for next year’s competition now.

Lovely Wishes,

Juliet
